Why are our anchors so much less expensive than the originals?
This is the most frequent question we get and the answer is quite simple:
Our anchors combine all the qualities of the original at up to 80% less cost.
Patents are generally only valid for 20 years, including anchor patents.
The patents for the Bruce, CQR, Danforth, and Delta style of anchors have all expired. This means we are freely able to construct these styles of anchors and pay no licensing costs.
This “Cut Throat” world of patents does not only apply to anchors, it occurs in every industry. The telephone, Aspirin, VHF tapes, and almost every other conceivable invention that we now take for granted are all inventions that have watched their patents expire (and we should be thankful for this or other wise we all would still be paying $30 for a bottle of Aspirin!).
What is the difference between your anchors and the original?
There is no significant difference between our anchors and the originals.
Aren't these just some cheap Chinese knockoff?
Knockoff means an unauthorized copy or imitation which our anchors definitely are not. Our anchors are every bit as legitimate as the versions of these anchors from the companies that originally produced them.
Yes, it is true that our anchors are constructed in China (along with over 40% of every other single product sold in the U.S.A. including most marine products). However, we work directly with our companies along every point of the product-development phase to ensure strict quality control. We now believe we have the best quality anchor made by anyone. In nearly 10 years in business we have yet to receive one serious complaint regarding the quality of our anchors, which can be verified by viewing our customer feedback page here.
There is no catch to purchasing one of our anchors. They simply are an incredible value made possible by the internet and patent-laws.
